Work

There’s more to being a writer than just putting words on a page. As the workforce trends ever further towards requiring employees to be well-rounded communicators, writers must demonstrate competence across many text-based platforms and disciplines – effectively making us information creators and arrangers. Below are examples of my own work across three of these text-based disciplines: writing, editing, and multimodal composition.
Editing
Text conveys vast amounts of information: data, emotions, locations, and protocols, just to name a few types. But effective communication comes in more than just words. Images, graphics, font choices, and compositional arrangements all factor into what defines the cutting edge of composition and ultimately drives the level of outreach and audience engagement a given document can obtain. The links to the right lead to some of the work I’ve completed for Auburn University’s Formula SAE Racing team during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. During my time with the team, I’ve designed magazines and brochures, written scripts for promotional videos, and even drafted a screenplay for the team’s 2016 racing vehicle debut.
Design Work & Public Writing
Word processors may alert users to misspelled words and grammatical slip-ups, but the best examples of written work undergo a thorough editing process at the hands of an actual human. To the right are examples of editing tasks I completed during 2015. The first document is a sponsorship application that ultimately netted Auburn University Formula SAE $3,500. The next two documents are articles edited for Auburn Speaks, the annual Auburn University research publication.
Grant Writing
Grants and funding proposals are a unique rhetorical situation all their own. While most of my writing is argumentative or persuasive in nature, grants have the added challenge of being tied to a monetary value that a third party may be relying on to continue operations. To the right are grants I have written for Auburn University’s Formula SAE team during my time on the Marketing team.
