I’m Griff Shelley. I write, research, and teach (both in and out of the classroom.) Through my stages in higher education, I’ve come to find that these three activities are more closely related and intertwined than we tend to think. Through research, we can compose, and through composing, we can teach. But the most important thing I’ve come to realize through my undergraduate and graduate studies, in both conducting and attending class, is that none of these activities is limited solely to scholastic ventures. Composing in any form, pedagogical, informational, promotional, or creative, and in any mode, alphabetic, visual, or film, serves at its core to teach audiences something new that they can take and apply to their own lives.
