Creative

I more or less fell into creative writing in the fall of 2015. After enrolling in a historical fiction class at Auburn, I found that creative work allowed me another outlet in addition to scholarly or professional writing. I also found, while completing the manuscript for Murderdrome, that writing creatively, focusing on prose and story delivery, forced me to be more aware of my word choice, sentence structure, and compositional habits in general. I eventually found myself applying the same approaches and considerations I employ in my creative writing to my scholarly and professional writing as well. Below are the three projects I am currently working on.

MURDERDROME a Novel

Jonathan Hartshorn, a British WWI vet injured in the Hundred-Day’s offensive, falls in love with Lydia, an America Red-Cross nurse. The two return to California where John struggles to adjust back to a civilian life by jumping into the world of board track motorcycle racing, the high-speed, high-stakes competitions held on wooden speedways up and down the West Coast. But will John’s biggest rival, Liu Wei “Tony” Cheng, the son of Chinese immigrants and three-time West Coast board track champion foil John’s chances for glory in a post-war USA, or will a horrific accident at California’s fastest race track tear apart any hopes John may have had for a normal life?

FLORIDA a Novella

Tommy and Derick had it made…ten years ago when coke was king and Miami was Mecca for the jet-set elite of the 1980s. Now, in 1992, coke – and most of Tommy and Derick’s old crew – is dead. Yet the duo who once found themselves as middle men for some of the most notorious cartels a decade ago now find themselves hanging out in the Middle Keys; not dead, not in jail, and not even terribly wealthy. Will they strike it rich once more in a desperate move to maintain relevance, or will sunshine, white beaches, and cheap rum prove too enticing to return to old ways?

CLARET a Novel

A modernization of Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula, Claret is the story of one New York attorney’s journey into the mysterious world of Parrish Faucher, an American expatriate living in the Bordeaux region of France who hires the lawyer to sell his lavish vineyard and estate. But as night falls and Faucher “dismisses” his servants, it becomes clear that there is more to the vineyard, and its owner, than meets the eye.
